Proven and Profitable
Our mission is to develop and assist franchisees to achieve best practice and to reach their full potential to manage and grow profitable and successful Clark Rubber retail businesses.
|

Clark Rubber had a modest beginning in 1946 when two men, Charlesworth and Clark, formed a partnership and established Clark Matting and Rubber. The brand grew considerably in the following years and in 1951 was listed on the Stock Exchange. In 1961 the name changed again to Clark Rubber Stores.
The business was then purchased by the Adsteam Group in 1982. 12 years later in 1994 Adsteam shut down the business and sold the name and logo to Vita Pacific, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Dunlop and the network of Clark Rubber stores were closed down.
Chris Malcolm, who was previously the Managing Director of Solomon’s Carpets and had spent over 20 years in retail had kept an eye on Clark Rubber and having seen all the stores close then approached Vita Pacific to find out what their plans were for the business. After some lengthy discussions, they agreed to license the Clark Rubber brand to Chris.
Chris then started to look at the best way to grow the business and capitalise on what was already a strong brand. He settled on the franchising model and in 1995 re-opened the first Clark Rubber store in Nunawading Victoria.
By 1998 the 50th Clark Rubber store opened and once again became one of the most recognisable retail brands in Australia. In 2000, Chris bought the Clark Rubber brand from Pacific Dunlop.
The next 8 years saw steady growth in both store numbers and sales at store level and in 2003, Clark Rubber won Franchisor of the Year in the category of entry capital over $200,000. Then in 2006 Clark Rubber was awarded the Franchise Council of Australia’s highest honor, Franchisor of the Year.
Today Clark Rubber has over 75 stores nationally and is continuing to grow. Chris, along with his teams focus is on helping its Franchisees build their own successful Clark Rubber retail business.
Clark Rubber stores are bright and vibrant, our product range is vast and our customer base is broad.
We are specialists in pools, foam and rubber. Our unique product mix is one of the unseen strengths of our business. It allows us to take advantage of very strong sales in Summer in the pool category along with strong year round sales in foam and rubber.
Customers at Clark Rubber can buy pools in a range of shapes and sizes along with pumps, chemicals, utilise the water testing service and a whole range of pool accessories and related products.
We are the largest retail suppliers of cut foam in Australia. Whether a customer needs one piece of square foam or 50 pieces cut in a specific design we can do it for them. We carry a large range of foam mattress along with other foam related products specific for industries like aged care.
Rubber is also a huge part of our business. From safety mats to go behind a bar to ute matting, we carry one of the largest selections of rubber products in retail within Australia.
Clark Rubber franchisees also run a pool van from their stores, providing their customers with an onsite pool care service.
The quality of a Clark Rubber store is built on the people running it, the products and the service!

As we said earlier the success of the Clark Rubber business is based on the success of our franchisees!
As you look into Franchising and specific franchise businesses you will start to hear a lot about systems, support, marketing and a whole lot of other things that Franchisors will talk about.
At Clark Rubber we don’t just talk about it. The focus of our business as the Franchisor is in providing our Franchisees with the tools, knowledge, systems and support they need to give them every opportunity for success in their own business.
We have created and continue to develop a franchisee support system that not only gives our franchisees the knowledge and skills they need but also ensures they have tangible business tools needed to help them run their business. This combination gives our franchisees a platform that enables them to build their own successful business.
